Materials List

OAoFA will provide a workstation including a chair, easel, drawing board, taboret, and paper towels.  Students are asked to bring:

Graphite Pencils - Please bring a variety of graphite pencils for use in class.  A range from 4H or so to 6B would be good.

Charcoal or Conte - Optional; each student can bring charcoal and or conte to class, depending on preference.  Vine charcoal, charcoal pencils and white chalk pencils are recommended if going the charcoal route, and a range of conte sticks if going that route.

Erasers - Bring both a white rubber eraser and a kneaded eraser.

Paper - Bring a sheet of drawing paper for the final drawing.  You can purchase a sheet at a art/craft store such as Hobby Lobby, Michaels or Dick Blick.  Recommended brands include Stonehenge and Canson.  If using charcoal or conte, a toned paper with a warm earth tone or a middle value gray is recommended.  Another option is to bring a large (18x24) pad of drawing paper.

Sketchbook - I recommend bringing a small sketchbook as well to take notes, draw compositional studies, etc.

Masterpiece Reference - Please bring a reference image of the masterpiece you want to draw to class.  We will talk about enlarging options the first class session in case the image is small in size.  I recommend looking at drawings from the Renaissance era and the 19th century.

Storage Bin - A storage bin of some sort similar to this Artbin box is recommended for carrying supplies to and from class.

Clothing - An apron or old clothes is suggested as there is a high possibility of getting dirty.

Attitude - A positive attitude and willingness to try new things is always appreciated!
